Kathy Scheel is a lifetime member of Sweet Adelines International and is the Master Director of Oregon Spirit Chorus from Salem, Oregon. She is known for her high-energy directing and coaching style and inspires groups to perform with passion and authenticity, starting with a clear vision and plan, a solid knowledge of vocal and visual skills, meaningful interpretive plans, and a fun way of making them come to life!
Kathy has served on the Regional Faculty, the Education Steering Committee, and Regional Management Team for several years, bringing her typical creativity to each task. This comes from a background of performing in various genres of music – symphonic orchestras, bluegrass band, and jazz groups. She is always eager to continue learning and keeping current on ways to teach and connect with singers and attends many regional and international workshops in her pursuit of knowledge. She also loves sharing what she has learned by presenting classes at various workshops across the country and while working with choruses and quartets.
Audiences at the Regional Competition always eagerly anticipate what Kathy’s chorus will bring to the stage; and they never disappoint us. They are known for creative use of staging, parodies, and props to enhance the story and fully entertain audiences (and the judges). She enthusiastically brings these skills and more to our Mountain Harmony Campers!
Love Notes has been singing together as a quartet since they were 11 and 12 years old. They quickly rose through the Sweet Adeline competition ranks, participating in the Young Women in Harmony program until in 2009 they became Regional Champions for Region 12. They then began competing at the International level.
Love Notes has also consistently competed in the larger a cappella community. They won 1st place and Best Original Arrangement at the 2009 Regional Harmony Sweepstakes. Then they went on to the Nationals where they placed 2nd and Audience Favorite. They had a good run on America's Got Talent TV show, making it through three rounds.
In 2013 they saw their dreams realized when they were crowned the 2014 Queens of Harmony for Sweet Adelines International. They continue to be active in Region 12 and International events, teaching, traveling for workshops, and performing for shows. Love Notes just returned from a tour in Germany. They have also toured Australia and Japan. They have produced several recordings as well.
They share their top level skills with our campers, through performance, directing section work, and teaching, getting up close and personal in classes.
